[Shaw Praxis 2025] Applications Open for Social Practice Projects

February 26, 2025 Upcoming Events

As the saying goes, “It’s easy to grasp concepts in theory, but true understanding comes from practical application.” In this era brimming with vitality and challenges, we are constantly seeking opportunities that nurture our personal growth and foster deeper connections with the world around us. Now, such an opportunity has arrived! Shaw College is currently welcoming applications from all students for 2025 Social Practice Projects.

What is “Shaw Praxis”?

Shaw Praxis refers to Shaw College’s social practice projects, encompassing large-scale practical projects and small-scale initiatives. This endeavor aims to provide Shaw students with deeper insights and opportunities to serve society through hands-on experience. It also seeks to enhance their teamwork skills, communication skills, and abilities to tackle real-world challenges.

Shaw Praxis covers multiple areas, including but not limited to educational outreach, environmental conservation, volunteer services, cultural heritage preservation, and technological innovation explorations. Students are encouraged to form teams and propose projects that suit their interests and professional strengths.

*Participation in Shaw Praxis projects fulfills either the 4-hour or 14-hour social practice requirement for CEC1020 credit certification, depending on your specific involvement.

Project Scope

  1. Large-scale practical projects

Features:

  • These projects are comprehensive and require substantial engagement, with a total practice duration of over 14 hours.
  • The projects typically revolve around social research, long-term volunteer services, or cross-regional practices.

Target Participants:

  • Students who wish to immerse themselves in societal engagements and undertake in long-term practical experiences.
  • Students with a clear research focus or service direction.
  • Students who are willing to invest substantial time and effort to pursue high-quality outcomes.

  1. Small-scale practical projects

Features:

  • These projects allow flexible timing, with a practical duration of over 4 hours.
  • Students have the freedom to choose a suitable location, provided they prioritize their own safety.

Target Participants:

  • Students who wish to participate in practical activities during their spare time.
  • Students who are interested in volunteer services, or public welfare endeavors.

Application Method

Students may form teams freely, with each individual limited to one team. Each team should consist of 4-12 members. Once formed, team members need to collaboratively write a project proposal using the template provided in Attachment 1 and submit it to the Shaw College Office via email at shaw@cuhk.edu.cn. If students have already identified a supervisor for their proposed project, please indicate this in the application.

*Applications for both large-scale and small-scale practical activities are open year-round, and project proposals can be submitted via email at any time.

Project Support

For approved projects, the College will provide financial support based on actual circumstances (with a maximum of 2000 yuan per project).

“Seeing is better than listening while practice is the best.” Whether it is the heartfelt impact of educational outreach, the frontier exploration of technological innovation, or the profound appreciation of cultural inheritance, off-campus social practice offers a valuable journey of learning and growth. Shaw Praxis looks forward to your participation!
